Baron Davis and Steve Nash in Step-Brothers

Ron Artest Traded to the Rockets

Over the past few years, Ron Artest has always proved himself to be a sold fantasy player. Since 2003, he has averaged about 20 points per game, 2.2 steals per game, and about 5 rebounds per game. His stats have proved to be highly predictable, with minimal fluctuation in his stats. However, his trade to the Houston Rockets is not only a big move for the team, but also to Ron Artest himself.

When Ron Artest was Indiana, he never had a great image, to say the least. Back then, when somebody said Ron Artest, people thought of a good-but-not-great basketball player who rapped and knocked people out at Detroit games. There was rarely a day when Ron Artest wasn't in the news for doing something bad. Then, with his trade to the Kings, he seemed to mature. His images became less and less tainted as he focused on his basketball career. As the media attention on Artest went down, his production went up.
Now, he is the teammate of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Not only are the Rockets serious western conference contenders now, but also everyone should expect Artests numbers to go down. Now that he is on a good team, I feel that it will encourage him to play like he's never played before. With the focus of the defence shifted away from him, he will have more open looks at the basketball and open lanes with which he can cut. Expect a break-out year from Ron Artest.

Mannnn and there I was hoping he'd go to the Lakers....

Tim Donaghy Sentenced to 15 Months

Player News and Notes

Luol Deng and the Bulls have reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a six-year deal worth more than $70 million.
Fantasy: under Vinny DeL Negro, Deng should became the centerpiece of the Bulls' offense, resulting in excellent fantasy averages similar to the one of 2 years ago (18,8ppg, 7,1rpg, 51,7FG%).

Nets' free agent Nenad Krstic has accepted a two-year, $9 million offer to play for Triumph Moscow this season. He's now at least the seventh player to leave the NBA this summer, joining Bostjan Nachbar, Juan Carlos Navarro, Jorge Garbajosa, Carlos Delfino, Primoz Brezec and, of course, Josh Childress.
The Charlotte Bobcats signed forward Emeka Okafor to a six-year, $72 million contract on Tuesday. The Bobcats upped their offer from $10 million to $12 million per season.
Fantasy: if healthy Okafor is one of the few centers who can really heavily contribute in 4 cats: points, rebounds, FG% and blocks. However, his FT% combined with the number of attempts could compromise your fantasy team in this category.

Breakout Players of the Week

Welcome to our weekly look at potential break-out players. These are the players who so far have not made it big, but could break out from mediocrity to a solid fantasy player. They are the diamonds in the rough that you look for in the mid to late rounds of your draft, hoping they turn into a gem for your squad. This week’s player is the Milwaukee Bucks Charlie Villanueva. After showing plenty of potential in Toronto in his rookie season, Charlie was traded to the Bucks for TJ Ford. His two seasons with the Bucks have so far been a disappointment and he has failed to develop as many though he would.

Is a sleeper really a sleeper?

So I was doing some blog surfing about basketball and I somehow landed on one of my favorite blogs, Give Me the Rock (You guys should go check them out!). Their latest post was about fantasy basketball sleepers. They were wondering if there was really such thing as a sleeper. Well, here is my take on it.

I think that when people usually say "sleeper," they are referring to somebody that they think will perform over the previous years' numbers. For example, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are in no way, shape, or form considered sleepers because every year, people expect them to produce the same numbers. On the other hand, nobody expected Hedo Turgulu to have the season that he did. Maybe some people guessed it, but nobody downright would have said, "Turgulu is definately gonna have a great year."

This is what constitutes a sleeper. In this way, another term that is synonymous with sleeper is breakout candidate. So i guess in some ways, GMTR is right. There really isnt any such thing as a sleeper.

USA Basketball- The Factors of Gold

As i finish watching the exhibition game Between the USA and Canada, I realized that this challenge isn't going to be as easy as viewers may think. Although we wish the rest of there schedule is against competitors at the same talent level as Canada, who we beat 120-65, trust me, it doesn't get easier. We will be playing teams who have great talent and has been playing together for years, instead of are team who is made up of players that mostly compete agianst each other to be the best. USA will also be going against a different kind of offence. European style of play contains quick ball movement and Big men having the option of shooting the far shots, and what we need to do is try to shut down there spacing with good defence and make them struggle with ball movement and make them take the heavily guarded shots.

Can the Celts go back-to-back?

As you enter a new season in the NBA, the year before doesn’t mean anything. You have to prove that you have carried that chemistry over the summer and still can play at that high level. For teams that did not make it to the post-season this is especially hard, you have to improve your team over the summer by bringing in talent, and training your potential players. But the teams that did make the post-season and had winning records, don't have the easiest job either, and if you are the defending champion you still have a lot to prove.
